WWPH SYNOPSIS and BOOK OVERVIEW
There are many ‘how to write a synopsis’ overviews on the internet. One of the best resources is the well-known publishing advisor Jane Friedman.
What are we looking for in a synopsis and book overview for a novel, a short story collection, or literary fiction? Specifically, please submit to us:
-A One-Page Synopsis: that tells us what your story is about – what is its emotional heart?
In a novel or memoir: Who is the protagonist? What is the inciting incident? Obstacles? How is the narrative resolved?
For all: What are some of the major themes or ideas in your novel, short story collection, or literary nonfiction covers?
In addition:
-A short answer: Describe your book in 100 words or less.
-A short answer to the question: Who is your reader?
-A short answer to the question: How do you expect to reach that reader?
Please write this synopsis and book overview without identifying yourself as the author. Use ‘author’ or ‘writer’ as generic terms versus your personal identification.
Please note that the word count for the synopsis and book overview is not counted as part of your manuscript.
